Andrew Ekblad, Ph.d., c. psych.
Andrew Ekblad, Ph.D., C.Psych. is the Founder and Director of Broadleaf Health, a multi-disciplinary emotional and behavioural care clinic in Ontario. He has over 15 years of clinical and research experience in the treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) through Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). He also has extensive experience in the application of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness Based Therapies (MBT) for trauma, mood, and anxiety disorders. Dr. Ekblad leads educational seminars and workshops for hospital, university, and community mental health practitioners throughout Canada. Dr. Ekblad has presented original research at international conferences and published academic articles on DBT, BPD, emergency department care of suicidal patients, substance abuse, mindfulness and mentoring. He is an Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry at McMaster University. Dr. Ekblad received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Duke University. He completed his pre-doctoral internship at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.
Sheri ongena, MSW, RSW.
Sheri Ongena, M.S.W., R.S.W., is a registered social worker with over 10 years of experience providing evidence based treatment both individually and in groups to children, youth and adults. She is a former Clinical Lead of the Canadian Mental Health Association. Sheri has been intensively trained in a variety of evidence based treatments including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness Based Interventions, and Motivational Interviewing. Sheri works with clients of all ages and has a particular interest in working with families as well as children with a history of trauma.
Darrell Gonzales, MSW, RSW.
Darrell Gonzales, M.S.W., R.S.W., has a diverse spectrum of experience from community family therapy to hospital-based intensive treatment for high risk outpatients. He is intensively trained in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). Darrell is a former clinician of Trillium Health Partners in Ambulatory Mental Health Services. He has a particular interest in working with individuals struggling with self-harm and suicidality. He also has experience in using Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) to treat individuals struggling with anxiety and depression. He is notably strong in working with individuals through interpersonal issues through interpersonal effectiveness training and intensive roleplay. He completed his Masters of Social Work at the University of Toronto and is registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers as well as a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers.
Frank Pew, MSW, RSW.
Frank Pew, M.S.W., R.S.W., has a decade of clinical experience in outpatient mental health care. He has a particular interest in crisis intervention and working with those suffering from emotion dysregulation and impulsivity. He is intensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Frank is the former Clinical Lead for the DBT program at the Canadian Mental Health Association of Waterloo, Wellington and Dufferin, the largest publically funded DBT informed program in the region. He completed his Masters of Social Work at Wilfrid Laurier University and is registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers as well as a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers.
Kayla simmons, MSW, RSW.
Kayla Simmons, M.S.W, R.S.W, is a registered Social Worker. Kayla sees individual adolescent and adult clients. She also co-facilitates DBT groups for both adolescents and adults. She has completed trainings in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). She is a former clinician at Homewood Health Centre in the Acute Care Program. At Homewood, she contributed to the assessment and stabilization of individuals exhibiting life-threatening or self-injurious behaviour related to a mental illnesses or disorder. She completed her Masters of Social Work at Wilfrid Laurier University and is registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers as well as a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers.
